David Berlanda Profile
I was born in 1990 in Brno, in Czechoslovakia, today’s Czech Republic. My father is Italian and my mother Czech; we lived just for 3 years in Brno before moving to Italy, to Ala, in Trento Province. Despite of this, I conserved my double citizenship and I still use to pass part of my holidays at my grandparents’ house in Brno, where also live some of my relatives. After having finished the first year of the primary school in Ala, I moved to Rovereto (just 25 km away from my previous home) in 1997, and I completed there the primary and the secondary school. Then I moved again in 2005 to another house in the same town and then completed in 2009 the classical high school. Now I am attending the first year of the three-year course of International Studies at the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Trento. I can speak perfectly Italian and Czech, English at a good level and Spanish to some extent.
Obviously my main hobby is travelling and I cannot say when I became interested in it because my parents used to travel with me also when I was very small. However I have established in some way that the year 1997 is the first one of which I can remember my travels. At the beginning our travels were only occasional one day trips but they became soon more and more frequent. We began to do some more-than-one-day travels to Italian cities or regions, then flights to European capital cities and finally long car (our or rented) itineraries through one country each time. Now we use to travel almost every Sunday no more than 200 km away from Rovereto but above all to do more than 5 car or flight travels more-than-one-day long every year; in addiction there are 3 relaxing holidays in Brno every year. And there are the two main car travels of the year, usually one of about 10 days, the other of about 3 weeks.
I became aware of the world heritage very early, about in 1997, but I began to become seriously interest in it and to include WHS in my itineraries only several years later. The world heritage list is for me a sort of good guidebook and I try to include as many sites as possible in my travels as main destinations alongside some other places highly-rated in the guidebooks; in 2006 I began to add also tentative list sites. I also always use to keep myself informed about every aspect of the world heritage so I became deeply interested in it.
An important activity connected to travelling is planning the itineraries. I use to spend quite a lot of time planning every travel, to make it sure that every holiday results as good as possible. So I often download maps, opening times, descriptions… I also think that in the destination I choose everything, if possible, has to be visited before leaving.
Eventually I use to take many pictures of every monument I visit. The result is that in the last year I took more than 20000 pictures. Apart from the fact that I like watching and ordering them and trying to take them better and better, it is also the most useful way to remember the places I visited.
Finally, a last point for this short introduction to myself: what do I think about this website and why do I like to write my reviews on it? Well, I think that this is maybe the best site on the net to express my opinions about travelling and world heritage. Certainly I enjoy myself writing my reviews and spending time with the other possible activities on the site, even if I have always few time to do it. I think that these reviews are also very useful for improving my knowledge of world heritage and my English but also of art, history, geography and many other related arguments; in addiction I like to share my knowledge and experiences with those who would like to read about them. For these reasons, my reviews always include a part of description, partly done by myself, partly taken from the net or from tourist guidebooka and a part where my opinions and impressions are expressed. Therefore some reviews may be also very long, even if when I see that they are going to be infinite, I try to limit my description to the most important or the most basic data. However I hope my reviews will not be boring for anyone and just in case they will be, I hope some bored reader will excuse me. I'm also planning to restyle/rewrite my oldest reviews, which seem to be worse than the most recent ones because I was younger and had less experience.
I have visited 275 UNESCO WHS (259 cultural, 13 natural and 3 mixed in 31 countries); I count a site as visited if I have seen at least one monument or natural feature comprised in its core area - the asteriscs show how much I liked them and the year when I visited then for the first time (I consider the year 1997 as the first of which I can remember my travels):
